I’m happy to introduce you to Lil Language Scholars, a local (northeast Illinois) Spanish program for young children. Their focus has always been the youngest children ages 2-6, but they also offer other options for children as they get older.

Here is what it says on their website:
I received the following products to review with my children:
1. Spanish@Home for preschoolers, December edition
2. Spanish@Home for elementary ages, lessons 1 and 2
3. Language Singers CD
4. Parent Resource Guide
The Spanish@Home for Preschoolers includes the following:
- Powerpoint for computer use (best seen in PPT 2010)
- Powerpoint is converted to a Media video for viewing on smart phone or Ipads (Media Player)
- PDF of vocabulary along with phonetics for those not fluent in Spanish
- PDF of three games, art projects or activities to do during the month to practice your new words
- PDF of flashcards to practice at home
- Completion Certificate
My younger kids, ages 2, 4, and 6, liked sitting at the computer and watching the Powerpoint presentation. You can tell by listening to it that Paula loves kids and really tries to connect with them. She tells little stories about the vocabulary word or the picture to help the kids remember. My kids already can say some of the words! The quality is “home-made,” not the fanciest graphics. And I don’t agree with some of the pronunciations (“ih” occasionally for the Spanish “i” and a hard “t” for Spanish “t” which should be softer.) However, I will still be using it with my kids. Check out the special sale listed below. We’ll be the first to purchase 4 more months of Preschool Spanish@Home!
Here they are watching the Powerpoint presentation:
And practicing their flashcards:

The Spanish@Home for Elementary Ages includes the following: A Powerpoint Presentation and a Grammar lesson. Homework is assigned as well, and they include an online website to get extra practice (the login and password are given–free access). You receive weekly lessons with homework that your child emails back to them for corrections and a monthly conversation phone call to practice what they are learning! You can email them for a sample beginner lesson. We checked out the first two weeks. Again, I disagree with some of the pronunciation. But the content is great and is at a level that my older kids (ages 7, 9, 10, and 12) will be challenged and learn.
The Language Singers CD has 16 songs, sung by woman with a very nice voice and good Spanish diction. The songs are catchy and my preschoolers loved them. They are not of the highest quality; the melodies and orchestrations are simple. They didn’t keep the attention of the older kids (ages 7, 9, and 10), but the younger ones (ages 2, 4, and 6) wanted to keep listening and will definitely learn from the songs. You can hear samples of the songs and purchase the CD or MP3 here at the website.
The CD:

The Parent Resource Guide is for ages 2-6 and is a collection of 25 sections that build on each other. Includes 250 different lessons for parents to use. The vocabulary is appropriate to the everyday life of a young child. I found this very handy with many useful ideas. There are some worksheets (like a place for the kids to color in the right color listed in Spanish) and activities for numbers, days of the week, clothing, etc. There are phonetic spellings for the Spanish words for non-Spanish speaking parents to help their kids learn the vocabulary! The price $20.
From the Parent Resource Guide:
I found Lil Language Scholars to be a great option for homeschoolers (and anyone!) to include Spanish in their curriculum. I’m glad now to be using it at my home and that my kids are enjoying it!
If you don’t homeschool, does your child’s school offer a foreign language? If not, refer them to Lil Language Scholars for a free merchandise credit! They offer curriculum nationwide for ages 2-12.

I’m really interested in the At Home option! With a 2 year old, two 3 year olds, and an almost-6-year-old, I think this might be a wonderful resource!
