Veggie Tales in the House Review

We started watching Netflix about a year ago.  Since then our kids have started watching TV shows; they had never watched TV before that.  Last weekend, though, my husband stopped to look at the My Little Pony episode that they younger kids were watching and said it was full of bad attitudes and he didn’t want them watching it anymore.  Thank goodness for VeggieTales in the House.

We have watched the first five episodes and are happy to say that kids will not get bad attitudes from this show!

On Nov. 26, VeggieTales, the most popular faith-based children’s entertainment brand, unveiled a brand-new Netflix original series for kids, VeggieTales In the HouseThe all-new series marks the first time in the 21-year history of VeggieTales that Bob, Larry and the veggie crew venture off the countertop for exciting new adventures, while remaining true to the values-driven storytelling that has long made VeggieTales such a beloved part of childhood.  The first five 22-minute episodes will be available for Netflix members in the US, Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux and France to watch instantly. “There’s a whole world that’s been right under our noses this whole time, and we can’t wait to see it,” said VeggieTales star Bob the Tomato. Echoed Larry the Cucumber: “The sweet potatoes are so excited, they don’t even know where to starch!”

In VeggieTales In the House, the veggies will take on a new, refreshed look as DreamWorks Animation puts its creative muscle behind the beloved faith-based brand.  VeggieTales creator Big Idea became part of DreamWorks in 2012 as part of the studio’s acquisition of Classic Media“We’re excited to give the beloved VeggieTales a brand new adventure,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content, Netflix.  “For many of our 53 million members worldwide, this will be the first time they’ve been introduced to the world’s most entertaining vegetables.  We hope many more families become fans of this wholesome preschool series.”
In each 22-minute episode of VeggieTales In the House, two separate 11-minute stories impart important life lessons, designed to please both young viewers and longtime fans of the VeggieTales brand. Every episode also includes brand-new songs and, of course, the famous closing phrase that has been at the heart of VeggieTales from the beginning: “God made you special, and He loves you very much.”

There are definitely some different things about the new VeggieTales.  First of all, they look different and the animation style is different.  It didn’t take us too long to get used to that, though.  Bob and Larry’s voices sound the same.  But Petunia and Junior sound very different.  I didn’t like that!
But, I love the values that are taught.  Kids learn to be honest, to be obedient (and not to hide it when they do something wrong), to be kind, and to be responsible, etc.  There is still a Bible verse in every episode as there was with past VeggieTales movies, but now it is woven into the story.  I am glad to have found a TV show that my kids can now watch without us hesitating!
