I’m so excited that SQUILT Volume 4: Modern Era is now available. That means that the whole set is ready! Each ebook has 10 lessons focusing on a different musical period.
You might want to check out my other reviews to read about Volume 1 Baroque, Volume 2 Classical, Volume 3 Romantic, and Christmas Carols. These are great for introducing your children to composers and music of those musical time periods! And there is special bundle pricing to get the whole set!
For the modern era, you will learn about these composers: Scott Joplin, Maurice Ravel, Bela Bartok, Igor Stravinsky, George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Each lesson contains information about one of their best-loved pieces, along with several links to Youtube to listen to it. Some of them have some really fun versions, too, like Sesame Street or a flash mob. You will also have a composer notebooking page and links to learn more about the composer.
I love how all the printables and YouTube links are included!
As you may remember, I’ve been teaching 20th Century music history/appreciation at my childrens’ homeschool co-op this year. Consequently, I have spent innumerable hours researching and choosing the best composers, styles, and pieces to share with the kids. I am really happy with all that Mary chose to put in SQUILT. I have included the same ones in my lesson plans as well. I just wish she had had this book ready last summer! 🙂
Here are a few ways you can use SQUILT with your family:
- Do one lesson a week for 10 weeks. You can go through the whole of music history (volumes 1-4) in 40 weeks! Get the whole set (40 lessons) for $45!
- Do one volume for a whole semester. You would do about 1 lesson every 2 weeks.
- Concentrate on one lesson for a whole month. Listen to the piece often. This is the Charlotte Mason way of composer study. 🙂
I encourage you to take advantage of the sale this week and get SQUILT Volume 4: Modern Era for only $9.99 (regular price is $12) or get the whole 4-volume set for $45!
