My “Get Healthy in 2015″ Update #1

I’m really excited!  As you may remember I have decided to get healthy for 2015.  I have already lost 4 pounds and 7 1/2 inches after 8 days of T-Tapp exercise and 5 days of clean eating (Daniel Plan 10-Day Detox diet: no sugar, no gluten, no dairy)!  This was really a challenge for me because I doubt I have ever gone a single day in my life sugar/gluten/ and dairy free.  I love my sweets, bread, and cheese!  But having the great recipes and meal plan in the Daniel Plan 10-Day Detox diet has kept me fully satisfied!

I learned to buy all kinds of new ingredients and prepare many meals that are healthy, fun, and delicious. Even my kids tried some of them, so maybe a transition to a healthier home won’t be as difficult as I originally thought. I also froze some of the meals I made in single servings so if others are eating something I shouldn’t, I can easily eat something that’s good for me.

One funny story was that last Monday I was supposed to chop a jicama into sticks to eat with hummus. I remember fondly that my grandmother used to serve us jicama.  :)  My husband helped me grocery shop last weekend, so when I went to the fridge to get it, realized I didn’t know what the jicama looked like.  There were 3 things I couldn’t identify; I knew one had to be a beet, one a turnip, and the other a jicama.  Google Images to the rescue!

For exercise, I mostly did the T-Tapp Basic Workout Plus Tempo DVD (18 minutes).  Two days I did some random T-Tapp exercises.  And one day I didn’t exercise at all.  Today I’m entering the 60-Day T-Tapp Challenge.  I’m hoping that by having to enter my measurements again in 60 days, it will motivate me to be consistent!

2015 Word of the Year: HEALTH!

I don’t know about you, but I have decided that I am tired of the symptoms I’m experiencing that maybe by eating better and exercising more consistently I might be able to do something about!  So, here is my Word of the Year for 2015: Health!

Here are the symptoms I’m hoping getting healthy will eliminate: low energy/fatigue, brain fog/poor memory/poor concentration, joint pain (arthitis), poor sleep (trouble falling asleep and staying asleep), hormonal spikes leading to irritablilty twice a month, and headaches.

I’ve been reading The Daniel Plan and there are 5 areas which need to be addressed in order to live a more healthy life: Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus, and Friends.  I have some goals for each of these areas and will be working on them in 2015.  (I’ll be sharing a full review of the book in the coming weeks!)

Faith:  I’ve starting reading the book of Isaiah from the Bible, and am looking forward to studying it this year.  I’ve gotten some great recommendations for study guides and commentaries, so I’ll share those in another post!

Food:  I think I’ll start with the 10-Day Detox diet that is laid out in The Daniel Plan.  I don’t know how I can possibly live without sugar, gluten, or dairy.  But I need to see if one or more of those is contributing to these terrible symptoms I’m feeling.

Fitness:  I’m starting the T-Tapp 60-Day Challenge on January 10, so I’ll be working on losing those last 15-20 pounds that I’m tired of carrying around.  T-Tapp is my go-to workout because it can be done at home with DVDs, doesn’t require any equipment, is a whole-body workout, is quick (all the workouts I do are 30 minutes or less), and really works–if I’m consistent!  I’m hosting a giveaway of the T-Tapp book Fit and Fabulous in Fifteen Minutes in a day or so, so stop back by the blog (or follow me by email so you don’t miss it–see sidebar for a way to sign up.)

Friends:  Connecting with others who are also deciding to get healthy this year.  Most of this will be online, especially with a new Facebook group I’m a part of.  I’m thinking of getting a FitBit as well, so I can have challenges and encouragement with friends through it!

From House to Home {Link Party}: T-Tapping Again!

It’s finally summer weather here in the Chicagoland area, so I got out my shorts that I haven’t seen for 2 years (last summer I was in my post-pregnancy clothes).  They don’t fit!  Well, I can zip them, but they are definitely too tight,  so, it’s time to get T-Tapping again.

After the T-Tapp 60 Day Challenge ended a few months ago I fell off the wagon and haven’t exercised much.  I know that I need to make it a part of my daily life, not just to fit into my shorts but to help with different health challenges I have such as varicose veins, arthritis, diverticulosis, and hormonal imbalances.

So, I’m back to my favorite exercise program.  T-Tapp is named after the founder Teresa Tapp.  She has figured out specific exercises that give you the most comprehensive workout  in the least amount of time.  So, I say to myself, “Can I give 15 minutes to this today?”  There is really no excuse to say no.  I don’t have to leave the house, get a babysitter, or spend an hour on it.  I don’t even change my clothes!

The first thing I did when I first considered T-Tapp was read the book Fit and Fabulous in Fifteen Minutes.  There I learned what’s different about T-Tapp and why you can really see results with only doing a 15-minute workout.  Then I got the DVD called Basic Workout Plus.  It includes the workout straight thorough but also a slowed-down version of it explaining how to do each move.  Doing the moves correctly is crucial in T-Tapp if you want to see results.  That’s one thing that’s so different about it compared to running, biking, aerobics, etc. where you are just trying to keep moving for a set amount of time.

From House to Home {Link Party}: T-Tapp 60-Day Challenge


I decided to join the T-Tapp 60-Day Challenge this year!  My goal was to lose 2 sizes, to get back into my size 6 clothes.   Look at this picture:

Yes–it’s size 6!

So, there’s good news and bad news regarding the challenge.

The good news:  I lost almost 2 sizes (can’t fit into all of my size 6 clothes, so I still have a bit more to lose), 6 pounds, and 13 inches!

The bad news:  I wasn’t as consistent with the exercising as I was hoping to be.  I began the challenge with a 7-day boot camp, which means that I did the T-Tapp Basic Workout Plus Tempo everyday for 7 days in a row.  That work-out is only 17 minutes long, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy!  The following week I did the same work-out every other day and did some other T-Tapp moves on the off days.  But after the 2nd week I only did 3 more work-outs and 3 more days of other moves for the whole rest of the challenge.

This, of course, helps you see the benefits of T-Tapp!  I still lost inches even though I didn’t do a whole lot of exercising.  One of their sayings is, “Less is More With T-Tapp.”
