I have been doing something really exciting with my kids for the last week. Today, I’m going to share with you How to use Ellie Claire Interactive Art Journals during your homeschool Bible time!

Review of Ellie Claire Interactive Art Journals

I recently received three gorgeous Ellie Claire Interactive Art Journals to review. At first, I was thinking about how I would be using these for my own personal Bible and devotion time, as well as to improve on my creative lettering and journaling skills.

But, then I realized that my kids would love it as well!

We are studying advent verses right now as we head into December, so the kids did some creative lettering, illuminated letters, and journaling/doodling on their Scripture verses. You can see those down below, but first, let me tell you all about the Ellie Claire Interactive Art Journals!

Ellie Claire Interactive Art Journals

The three journals I received are: Faith & Lettering, The Illustrated Word, and Illuminate Your Story. The journals have similar features, such as hardback covers, thick pages, and places to write, draw, or color. But, they encourage a different creative outlet. You’ll probably discover, as I did, that there is one that fits your style best.

By the way, I have decided to keep one of the journals for myself to continue using and give the other two to two of my daughters for Christmas. These interactive journals are PERFECT to give as gifts!

Faith & Lettering

Faith & Lettering, by hand-lettering artist and graphic designer Krystal Whitten, was my personal favorite of the three journals. I loved it because it has tutorials for lettering styles, embellishments, Bible journaling, and more.

I am not naturally creative and talented in lettering and journaling, so I need some encouragement and specifics on how to do it.

The Faith & Lettering Journal provides pages for practice as well as blank lined pages, blank dotted grid pages, and regular grid pages for doing your own Bible journaling!

The Illustrated Word

The Illustrated Word is an illuminated coloring journal with coloring pages and lined pages interspersed throughout.

It’s from the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C.; I can’t wait to visit there! The Museum has an impressive collection of illuminated manuscripts, which are early Bible and book manuscripts that were intricately illustrated to make the Biblical text come alive.

This journal has photos of them, and then coloring pages so you can do your own illuminated manuscripts of Scripture as you meditate!

It’s filled with blank pages (no tutorials in this one), so it’s more of a straight journal with the awesome coloring pages sprinkled through.

Illuminate Your Story

Illuminate Your Story is also from the Museum of the Bible. But, unlike The Illustrated Word, this one offers a step-by-step guide for how to draw illuminated letters. We study illuminated letters every time we learn about the middle ages in history.

I love how monks of the past made the Bible pages gorgeous works of art. You’ll learn about the history and significance of biblical illuminations in the introduction of Illuminate Your Story.

What I loved most about the Ellie Claire Interactive Journals

Lay-flat binding allows us to use the journals easily.

The paper thickness means that none of our markers or pens bleed through.

The tutorials are easy to follow and really make learning fun.

The varied pages of lines, grids, dots, etc. encourage so much creativity with help!

I’m so inspired to keep learning more about Bible journaling and get more creative with lettering. I know my kids absolutely love it as well. See their examples below, from ages 6-13.
