Homeschool Essentials: Apologia Chemistry/Physics Experiments

Science Experiments Collage final

We’ve made it to day 4 of “5 Days of Homeschool Essentials.” Today I’m sharing about some of the fun experiments we’ve done in science this year (all at our co-op). We’re using the book from Apologia Exploring Creation With Chemistry and Physics by Jeannie Fulbright. Her science books are definitely an essential in our homeschool! We have already used 4 of them and will finish this year’s and 2 more. Then, I’ll start all over again, and I can’t wait!

All of the following experiments are found in the science book from Apologia.

Testing different surfaces for friction (water, oil):

Learning about amorphous solids (have the characteristics of both solids and liquids):

Seeing how acids react with metal (vinegar and steel wool):

The next two were chromatography:

Stay tuned for more science experiments later this year.  I also have some fun videos that I’ll learn how to upload here.  🙂

Do you have a favorite science curriculum?  My all time favorites are those from Apologia! Please share yours in the comments!

  1. We love the Exploring Creation series as well and are working through the same Chemistry one. The lids love doing the experiments and seeing how many they can find on you tube! Always fun to see others’ experiences!

  2. We are loving Apologia Chemistry and Physics too! And already making plans for which Apologia science we want to do next 🙂 You’re a better mom than me though, some of the experiments are too messy or require too many supplies, so if the kids know how it’s going to turn out without doing it, we skip some of them! This week we did the sound travelling through solids one though, and the girls were shocked, at how sound traveled, I was amused 🙂

Actually, we aren’t doing ANY of the experiments at home this year! They are all at our co-op. I leave the preschool room and sneak into the science class to take pictures! And the science moms (and kids) clean it all up! 🙂

  3. We missed out on the younger Apologia curriculum, but it is our favorite for high school. Back in the day we had Janice Van Cleave and KONOS plus odds and ends. We had tons of fun with our co-op as well. Your post brings back memories of our elementary science co-op days. 🙂
