Welcome to the review of Imagination Station book #13: The Redcoats are Coming by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders. Once again I wasn’t disappointed.

The Redcoats Are Coming! (AIO Imagination Station Books)

The Imagination Station books follow 2 cousins Patrick and Beth who travel back in time in Mr. Whittaker’s Imagination Station–yes, the same one from Odyssey if you are familiar with the Adventures in Odyssey stories.

These chapter books are written for early readers; they’re perfect for kids who are transitioning from picture books to chapter books. It’s recommended for ages 7 and up, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level 2.5. There are 15 chapters and 132 pages.

The Redcoats are Coming has Patrick and Beth traveling to Concord, Massachusetts in 1775. Their mission is to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. While there they meet other famous men from history such as John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The cousins learn about how the patriots are trying to protect themselves by collecting and hiding musket balls. But it’s hard to tell whose side everyone is on. There are secret codes that the Patriots use, but even then it’s hard to know whom to trust. The story is fast-paced and easy to read. There is tension when the letter gets lost (stolen?) and then Paul Revere isn’t able to finish his famous ride. Will Patrick and Beth help out so that the Patriots will know that the Redcoats are coming?

One great thing about the Imagination Station books is that they help kids explore history. Usually each book is stand alone, but you will find that The Redcoats are Coming is to “be continued!” The next book is Captured on the High Seas. Read more about it at TheImaginationStation.com.
