Hi, I’m Gena
My name is Gena, and I’m the mom of eight children, ages 23 down to 11. I have homeschooled them from the beginning. My wonderful husband of over 25 years is also my best friend! I love learning and reading, singing and playing the piano, teaching music, directing musicals, sewing, quilting, hand-lettering, painting, and crafting, and, most of all, my Lord Jesus.
My blog is a place to share my joy in my family, in my home, and in homeschooling. I love encouraging others in this crazy homeschool life we’ve chosen, reviewing helpful homeschooling materials so you can make informed decisions, providing tips for homemaking, and sharing about our everyday life!

Where this all began
When I had my first child 23 years ago I had no idea I would embark on an adventure of homeschooling and running my own business. I posted my first I Choose Joy post in 2005 and began Music in Our Homeschool in 2015. Now, thousands of homeschool families have used my Music in Our Homeschool online courses, and we’re growing every day. What a joy!
