Patterns of Evidence DVD

Patterns of Evidence Exodus is one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time. It’s so good, in fact, that I’m going to require it for my kids to watch when we study ancient history this fall.

About Patterns of Evidence Exodus:

For more than 50 years, the vast majority of the world’s most prominent archaeologists and historians have proclaimed that there is no hard evidence to support the Exodus story found in the Bible.  In fact, they say that the archaeological record is completely opposed to the Bible’s account.  This view of extreme skepticism has spread from academia to the world.  The case against the Exodus appears to be so strong that even some religious leaders are labeling this ancient account as historical fiction.
Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney begins with the questions, “Is the Bible just a myth, or did the archaeologists get it wrong?”  He decides to tackle this issue wit a deliberate scientific approach.   After examining the details in the biblical text, he journeys across the globe to search for patterns of evidence firsthand.  The result is the most in-depth archaeological investigation into the Exodus from Egypt ever captured on film.
This scientific documentary’s goal is to communicate the TRUTH of the Bible and help equip believers with defending their faith and the Bible.

Features of Patterns of Evidence Exodus:

The DVD features stunning animations and a cast including narrator, Kevin Sorbo (God’s Not Dead, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), interviews with leading archaeologists including Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl, and guest appearances by Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres.

My review:

The story told in Patterns of Evidence Exodus reminds me of the evolution debate. Even though there is so much evidence against their theory, they continue to hold onto it. Well-known atheists, theologians, and archaeologists hold onto the belief that if the Exodus (of the Israelites from Egypt) occurred, then it would have been during the New Kingdom of Egypt’s history. Since there isn’t archaeological evidence to support it then, they believe it didn’t happen at all.
And even though there is ample evidence to support the Exodus occurring during the Middle Kingdom, and that Egypt’s historical time period should be shifted, they refuse to believe that. Why? Because if they do, then the Bible is true. And God is real. And they just don’t want to believe in Him.
I especially loved the graphics in the film that helped us understand the different time perspectives.  I loved all the interviews, on both sides of the issue. And I loved seeing all the historical places that the filmmaker traveled to.
This is a movie that is a must-see for every Christian. And I would hope many, many unbelievers would watch it as well!

  2. Patricia Walker says:

this is one of many controversial subjects that you can either get your teeth into or run from. It sounds like it will be a great read not only as a book that covers a place that I spent time in but as a historical time period I am fascinated with. I am one of the unbelievers that would love to follow this one!

    1. That’s wonderful, Patricia! It’s always best to listen to all sides and consider all the evidence. 🙂

  3. Dana Matthews says:

Looks very interesting! I like movies that can hold my attention! I see a movie night in my future!

  4. Looks interesting. I would like to win to watch with my son.

  5. I want to win because my family is very religious and would love to watch this dvd.

    1. interesting article. It sure is easier to understand the chronology issues in this DVD than it is in print, though. I think you’ll really enjoy this movie !

  6. Biblical archaeology can be so difficult. A well-done presentation, whether written or video, makes all the difference. This one look well-done. I enjoy looking for resources with which to help teach our daughters that the Bible is God’s word, it is truth, and there is nothing so important in all of life as to know and live by His word. This resource looks like a possibility for that.

  7. Christina says:

I enjoyed the trailer, because they have commentary from skeptics. I think I would like to watch this with people from my church.

  8. Judith Martinez says:

I’m fascinated by archeology and Biblical history so I know I would enjoy this film.

  9. I homeschool our three children and would love to view this with them as part of our history class.
