Wonderful Reasons Why Vacations Make Families Closer

Ten years ago, when my fifth child was a baby, my husband announced that he wanted to go out of town for the long weekend. I looked at him like he was crazy. Our children were 6, 5, 3, 2, and 8 months. But we did it, and had an amazing time! We still talk about that trip, and I realized that there are wonderful reasons why vacations make families closer.

Annual Vacations to Make Families Closer

We then made it a priority to plan a week-long road trip every summer. Our family has gone to some incredible places, like Mount Rushmore, Maine, the Smoky Mountains, several beaches, and the Colorado Rockies. We even flew to California one year (for my Mom’s funeral), and did a road trip through that beautiful state.

Lessons Learned

Our kids learn such valuable lessons on these trips: how to pack, how to live in tight spaces, how to try new foods, and how to be kind under stress and less sleep. We see the beauty that God has made in His creation in different parts of the U.S. and Canada.
