In Our Homeschool:

We started back to work after 1 1/2 weeks off.  It was nice to get back to it.  My husband and I discussed some things we’d like to change in the schedule, including a few more detailed activities for the preschoolers.  He also told me that he’d like me to start singing lessons with all the kids.  So, that will be coming!  We started on our Jesse Tree advent readings this week.

Fun With Grandparents:

My mom stayed with us the week before and Thanksgiving week.  Since then, my husband’s parents have been with us.  The kids are going to be so sad to be grandparent-less next week.  🙁

They had fun baking cookies.

What God Has Been Teaching Us:

A common topic of discussion this week has been about what God wants us to see and do, what’s appropriate and what’s not.  We are constantly bombarded with new apps and books.  Every day we must make decisions about whether God would want us to play those games or read those books.  In our Worldview curriculum (Biblical Worldview of Self-Image) we read this yesterday:

“If we fill our minds with words and images of fear, envy, greed, hate, anger, violence, or foolishness, then our thoughts will return to these things time and again until we become fearful, envious, greedy, hateful, angry, violent, or foolish people.  ‘For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks,’ Jesus said. . . . Unhealthy input will corrupt anyone’s mind.”

A First:

My oldest son tried out for his first musical last night.  The organization Spotlight (formerly known as Chicago Youth Theater) is performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  We worked hard developing his 1-minute audition piece of the song “Comedy Tonight.”  We’ll find out if he makes it tomorrow!  He also turns 12 tomorrow.  Where has the time gone?  Here he is playing his saxophone.
