Review/Giveaway of The Reunion by Rachael McIntire
This week I have a review and giveaway of a novel called The Reunion, written by Rachael McIntire.
It’s a sweet story perfect for reading aloud or for older tweens or teens to read to themselves. The basic plot is that a Christian family of three is seeking to adopt a second daughter. Before they get a call from the adoption agency, a baby appears on their doorstep in a basket! A second baby appears at another doorstep and is adopted by a wealthy family. We follow the lives of these two girls as they grow up.
The Reunion is a story that would be most enjoyed by a conservative Christian family. There is great focus on prayer, being a good witness for Christ, and blessing one’s enemies. Although the kids in the story aren’t homeschooled (two go to a private Christian school and another goes to a boarding school), I think most homeschoolers would still like reading this book. I did!
I love how the book can be used to help our kids to develop godly attitudes and reactions to others. We see the problems that the characters face and how they are able to react in a Christian way, even when it isn’t easy to do it. This would be a great book to use during Circle Time or Family Worship!
I think the only critique I would give it is that it moved a little too quickly for me. I stayed up one night and read the whole book in one sitting. I would have been happy to have the story lines more developed and had a longer book. And, yet, all plot lines are tied up, so it really wasn’t too short.
