Memorizing Scripture
This year I started memorizing Scripture with my 4 yo and 5 yo boys. I thought it would be neat and helpful to start with Genesis and learn one verse from every book of the Bible in order. So far we’ve made it up to II Samuel. I’ve listed the verses below. They are from the New International Version, and some are shortened. We’ll go back later and add full passages to some of these isolated verses, such as the whole Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 and the full blessing from Numbers 6. If you haven’t started a scripture memory program, maybe this can help you get started! It’s also going to help the kids memorize the books of the Bible since we often review the verses in order.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother.
Leviticus 19:18 Love your neighbor as yourself.
Numbers 6:24 The Lord bless you and keep you.
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous. . .for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Judges 5:3 I will sing to the Lord, I will sing.
Ruth 4:14 Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer.
I Samuel 12:24 Be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart.
II Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless.
