Iditarod: Toughest Race on Earth (DVD, more for older kids and adults)
The Toughest Race on Earth
This last resource was a documentary from the Discovery Channel. It followed about 8 of the mushers as they ran the 2008 Iditarod Race. I found it fascinating.
This Year’s Race
Now that my kids and I know some of the mushers, I’ve been a little obsessed about checking the standings in this year’s race and reading all the bios! As of this writing, the leader is Dallas Seavey. He was homeschooled, and his dad and 74-year-old grandfather are also in the race this year.
Iditarod Lapbook for the Iditarod unit study
Here are pictures from the lapbooks the kids made. There is a mixture of four different lapbooks made by ages 3, 5, 6, and 8.
Where We Got the Lapbook Materials for the Iditarod unit study
We used some free materials from HomeschoolShare: True Dog Stories
Others are from Hands of a Child.
Winter Books:
Combine this fun winter lesson with some great winter books! See the list here.
Fun topic! We just discovered lapbooks recently (well, I had heard about them, but never done one) and my kids are loving them! Thanks for sharing this with us last week at Trivium Tuesdays.
We love lapbooks and this would be a really fun topic. Thank you for sharing this!
