James: An Inductive Bible Study curriculum review
Five of my kids and I have been doing the James: An Inductive Bible Study for the past few months as part of our Morning Time in our homeschool. They are in grades 5th – 11th, and I love that it’s something that we can all work through together. My 3rd grader even listens in.

How We use James: An Inductive Bible Study
The course James: An Inductive Bible Study is in a Teachable online course, which is super easy to use. I play it on my laptop and mirror it on our smart tv, so everyone in the living room can easily see the video.
The way we do it is that on Monday, I read through the Scripture for the week’s study. For example, this morning was for James 4:13-17. Each student has his or her own Bible Study Workbook, which was downloaded from the online course.
Then, we watch the video lesson taught by Abby Banks inside the course. It helps them get an overview of the week’s lesson and I allow my kids to take notes as they watch the short video.
The video is actually created to be used after they have their lessons completed, to check their work, but I love doing it this way, and it’s working well for us!
During the next three days, the kids read through that week’s lessons, mark the keywords in the Scripture, look up the accompanying Bible verses, and answer all the questions.
On Friday, we meet back together again and go through the answers together. I love that we get to talk about God’s Word together as a family, and I get to hear their thoughts. They have teaching from Abby and from me. And, the Holy Spirit speaks to them directly as they study the Word!
Even though the suggested schedule says it will take 9 weeks to complete, we’ve stretched it out to 27 weeks, where each video and the accompanying Scripture take a week to do, with an additional week for each chapter summary.
What else is in James: An Inductive Bible Study
Abby includes the following in the course:
- A Suggested Schedule (both a 4-day and a 5-day schedule is included, should take 9 weeks in total to complete it this way)
- What is an Inductive Bible Study? She explains how it compares to a deductive Bible study.
- Marking the Text (a video shows you exactly how to do it, with suggestions of markings)
- How to Count for High School Credit (she explains how to do this)
- The Self Study Workbook (yes, your older kids can do this Bible Study all on their own!)
Our Final Thoughts
I’m really happy with the way the James: An Inductive Bible Study is working in our homeschool this year. Abby is a great teacher, and this is a fun way for 5th – 12th graders to study the Bible! Plus, I know God is speaking to them through it.

First of all, if you have kids in K-4th grades, you’ll want to check out the James Little Fishes Study!
I’m excited that other Inductive Bible Studies are coming. I think we’ll do Jonah and Nahum next.
She has a Little Fishes study for Jonah and Nahum as well.
I also love Abby’s other courses, such as Selling on Etsy Masterclass. It has helped my daughter and me to open our own Etsy shops. My shop is IChooseJoyByGena and my daughter’s shop is NailSetsByB. You can read my review of Selling on Etsy Masterclass here.
Printing:
By the way, we had Family Nest Printing do the printing for our James Bible Study. You can have them bind the booklets as you see in the picture above, but we just had them 3-hole punched and put them into 3-ring binders.
