Art Day

I was reviewing an earlier post about the art projects I was hoping to do this fall (see it here) and had only done one of the ideas!  We glued pieces of wood scraps together to create sculptures and then painted them.  That was a couple of months ago.

Today I decided to tackle a few projects all at once.  First, we cut out shapes from slices of bread with cookie cutters and then covered them with peanut butter and birdseed.  When they dry we'll hang them outside for the birds.

Next we made salt dough (Mix 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup salt and 1 cup water.  Knead for 5 minutes.  Roll out with rolling pin–sprinkle with flour to prevent sticking.)  Then the kids cut out shapes with cookie cutters and poked a hole with a straw.  I baked them for 1 hour 15 min. at 350 degrees.  Later they can paint or color them with markers.

The last project was cutting out paper snowflakes.  The huge snowflakes are now decorating our tree.  Here is a fun website to make virtual snowflakes:  http://www.popularfront.com/snowdays/.  Have fun!

Thanks for sharing. I really like these ideas, especially the bread one for the birds.
