Old Testament Lapbook from Homeschool in the Woods

We studied Ancient Times for history this past year, using the wonderful resources from Mystery of History, volume 1. One thing we added to it to make it an even more wonderful study was the Old Testament Lapbook from Homeschool in the Woods.

I LOVE the Mystery of History books and am really looking forward to studying volume 2 next year!

How We Study History in our Homeschool

We study history together as a family, ages 3 through 11.  Every afternoon while the baby (soon it will be babies) sleeps, I read a chapter aloud.  I have some of the kids narrate back what we read about or we’ll orally go over the tests and quizzes included in the book.  At the end of the year, we added the main people and events to our timeline, which covers our upstairs hallway.

I like to have the older children do some written work as well.

Two of the kids (ages 8 and 10) did the Old Testament lapbook from Home School in the Woods.

I love all the different types of  “mini-books” that are included in this lapbook. We added extras, like the red ribbon and brads to make it even more fun. As we read through stories of the Old Testament, I had the kids work on the next mini-book or page.

Each child had their own file folders which were kept in a three-ring binder. See how we added duct tape and 3-hole punched it to keep it in the binder?

Newspaper Project for the Old Testament

My oldest son, who doesn’t really like lapbooks, did the accompanying notebooking pages from the Homeschool in the Woods Old Testament Study, which were in the style of a newspaper ~ writing articles and advertisements. It was so fun to see his creativity come out!

Illustrate the Proverbs:

I also loved the great pages for illustrating Proverbs. I think it really helped the kids understand the meanings better.

If you are studying the Old Testament for history or Bible time, I highly recommend this Old Testament study from Homeschool in the Woods. They also have one for the New Testament that we enjoyed as well.
