Review/Giveaway “The Legend of the Three Trees” DVD

The Legend of the Three Trees giveaway

Today I’m happy to review the DVD of the classic folktale story The Legend of the Three Trees published by Tommy Nelson.  It’s an older DVD, from 2001, but is of a timeless and beautiful story.

In case you aren’t familiar with it, it tells the story of 3 trees.  We start out with their seeds and see where they grow up.  Each tree has dreams for what it wants for its life.  The first wants to be a beautiful treasure chest, the second a great sailing vessel, and the third wants to be the tallest tree in the forest so it will point people to God up in heaven.  The trees don’t become exactly what they dreamed of, but God makes them even greater.  The first becomes the manger that the Lord Jesus is laid in as a baby.  The second becomes the humble fishing boat that keeps the disciples safe in the storm until Jesus calms it.  And the third is made into the cross that Jesus dies on, fulfilling that tree’s dream of pointing people to God.

On the 30-minute DVD you’ll find the story narrated by Hal Holbrook.  The animation is a mixture of still shots and live animation.  There are animals that play with the seeds, men who chop down the trees, and scenes of Jesus with each of the trees.  There are also 2 original songs which go along with the story (sung by Marilyn McCoo and 4HIM’s Andy Chrisman).

My younger children enjoyed watching the DVD.  It’s labeled as being for ages 4-7, and I think that’s a good age range.  I love the story; I think it’s a beautiful way to share with everyone that God has a plan for our lives.
