15 Basic Items for Every Homeschool Mom Wardrobe
I am a mom of 8 kids and had them (all singles) within 11 years. And, I homeschool as well as run an online business. I learned a long time ago that it’s important for my well-being and productivity to get up every morning, do some kind of exercise such as online Pilates, take a shower, and get ready for the day. What does “getting ready” entail? Fixing my hair, putting on make-up, and dressing nicely in my “homeschool wardrobe”–every single day!
In the last couple of years, I started trying out capsule wardrobes and outfit formulas, especially from Get Your Pretty On (GYPO Outfit Formulas and Style Challenges) and Frump Fighters. It’s fun to buy a couple of new items each season and have someone else give me ideas about new combinations with items I already have in my closet! Today I’m sharing with you 15 Basic Items for Every Homeschool Mom Wardrobe.
15 Basic Items for Every Homeschool Mom Wardrobe
White Shirt/Sweater
Whether it’s a white button-down shirt, white t-shirt, or white sweater, it will go with so much! Dress it up with jewelry, a scarf, or a nice jacket.
If you’re looking for encouragement as a stay-at-home mom, here’s a moms checklist for you.
Striped Shirt/Sweater
I never wore stripes until a few years ago. Now I love them!
Colorful Shirt/Sweater
One of my favorite items this spring is this fun flowered blouse from Old Navy. Wearing colors can make the day seem brighter.

Homeschool or Mom T-shirt
I ordered this shirt from Etsy and can’t wait to get it! T-shirts are perfect for the days when you don’t feel like dressing up too much.
There are some great Husband and Wife shirts from Married is Great that I love wearing as well!
Jean Jacket
What doesn’t go with a jean jacket?
Cargo Jacket
I’ve wanted a cargo jacket for several years, and finally got one–from Stitch Fix!
Colorful Cardigan
Even if your shirt is dark or plain, the outfit will be brighter with a colorful cardigan.
Printed Cardigan
I decided to try out the animal print trend this year with these two cardigans. So fun! I also got print earrings, shoes, and pants.
Dark Jeans
I love wearing jeans. They’re my all-time favorite on days I need comfort but still want to look nice.
Light Jeans
Lighter jeans give the outfit a more casual feel than the darker jeans.
White Pants
I found out that you can even wear white pants in winter!
Colored Pants
Pink, teal, olive–do you have any colored pants to change up the look of an outfit?
Colorful Scarf
Scarfs serve two purposes–to make an outfit more beautiful and to keep you warm!
Hoop Earrings
Of course, I often wear gold and silver hoops (like you see in the photos after this one), but I was happy to find these pearl hoop earrings this year!
Pendant Necklace
Pendant necklaces can be fun and don’t have to be expensive. I usually get them at Walmart or Amazon.

My kids call my “Homeschool Mom” tee-shirt my uniform. I may need to branch out and try some of your suggestions.
Yes! π
What an amazing giveaway! This Mother’s Day is going to be a memorable one for sure.
For sure!
I have been thinking about adding a jean / cargo jacket to my wardrobe
Definitely! When thrift stores open back up, that’s a good place to look!
I love the cargo jacket in the above picture. I also love so many of these looks gives me a lot of new fashion ideas I also love the name of your blog.
Thank you so much! “I choose joy” is a reminder to myself that I need to do it.
I am trying to add more color to my wardrobe! I pick comfort over style and need to wear clothes that are loose and comfortable. I typically wear leggings and a long sleeve tee, tunic or sweater/jacket combo.
Comfort is definitely important. If clothes aren’t comfortable, I won’t wear them! Except maybe shoes, for a short period of time. π
I love the flannel scarf! It looks so cute and cozy! π
I got that one at a resale shop! π

Love the scarves! And the other wardrobe ideas, I find that if I’m happy with what I’m wearing I’ll feel more “professional” and upbeat for the homeschool day π I also like the name of your blog – in fact “We choose joy” is part of our family mission statement!
Yes! More professional. That’s how I feel, too. And, I love that “we choose joy” is part of your family mission statement. π
